PB Coaching ...... Coach Education

Postgraduate Certificate in Executive & Business Coaching

Originally designed by our founder and coaching thought leader Peter Bluckert in 2000, our Postgraduate Certificate in Executive and Business Coaching is recognised as one of the longest running and most advanced coach training programmes available in the UK. Validated at Postgraduate level by Leeds Beckett University (60 CATS points) and accredited by Europe’s largest professional coaching body the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, it is a is specifically designed to train high quality and highly credible coaches who can operate with psychological awareness and skill independently and in organisations.

  • Accredited by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) at Senior Practitioner Level.
  • Validated Postgraduate award (60 CATS Points) by Leeds Beckett University.
  • Eligible for Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 Diploma in Leadership Coaching and Mentoring.
  • A version of this programme is delivered in Ireland in partnership with the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin under the title ‘Diploma in Business and Executive Coaching’.

Central to the PB Coaching approach are the principles of Gestalt psychology, and this course prepares delegates to use these principles, becoming skilled at working with the psychological dimensions of coaching – a territory which is critical to helping coaching clients make lasting changes to ingrained patterns of behaviour.

Interested in Gestalt? Read ‘The Pragmatics of Magic‘ and learn about ‘use of self’, the ‘highest order coaching skill’ (Bluckert, 2006) which delegates of this programme learn to use in their practice.

The main three strands through which learning is delivered are:

  • Theoretical input from tutors, group discussion, coaching demos etc.
  • Coach practice in small groups on live issues, with feedback from peers and experience Coach Practice Tutors.
  • Experiential learning, through our unique ‘EI Lab’.

The programme is in constant evolution, ensuring delegates are equipped with the most up to date and relevant theory and models relating to executive and business coaching, the psychological dimensions of coaching, coaching in systems and coaching senior leaders. Upon completion delegates are highly competent and confident executive and business coaches, fully prepared with the skills, accreditations and qualifications to work independently or as an advanced coaching resource within an organisation.

We are welcoming applications onto our September 2015 and 2016 intakes – contact us to find out more or to book your place.

This 16-day programme is structured into six workshops over a nine month period, fitting in with Leeds Beckett University’s academic year (September to May).

Delegates learn a wide range of relevant theory, and embed their learning through observed practice and feedback sessions. A distinguishing feature of this course is the strong element of experiential learning gained in the ‘Community Group’.

The focus is on executive and business coaching, and coaching in the organisational context (including coaching senior leaders, understanding systems and developing coaching cultures), but the psychological skills that our delegates gain enable them to work on a wide range of issues. The workshop themes are:

  • Workshop 1 – The Fundamentals of Coaching
  • Workshop 2 – The Psychological Dimensions of Executive and Business Coaching
  • Workshop 3 – Creative Approaches to Coaching, including the use of Metaphor
  • Workshop 4 – Coaching for Change (including Prochaska and Immunity to Change)
  • Workshop 5 – Somatic Approaches to Coaching
  • Workshop 6 – Organisational Applications of Coaching, Systems Theory and Coaching Cultures

As well as being a top tier coach training programme in its own right, the Postgraduate Certificate in Executive and Business Coaching carries 60 CATS points and as such it is one third of a 180 CATS points Masters Degree. Upon completion delegates are eligible to apply to join  either the Postgraduate Diploma in Coaching Psychology or the Postgraduate Diploma in Coaching Supervision (120 CATS points).

Assessment  includes academic assignments, the completion of a coach competency inventory and completion of a specified number of coaching hours.

Upon completion of this course you will be ideally placed to provide an advanced coaching resource within an organisation or to set up an independent coaching practice. You will have completed an highly regarded and professionally accredited coaching course, with academic validations.

  • Highly developed self-awareness and awareness of your impact, enabling you to work with the psychological, relational and cultural aspects of coaching.
  • Competence and confidence using advanced coaching capabilities in organisations and at senior levels.
  • An integrative understanding of your own unique approach to coaching – putting your “signature” on your coaching practice.
  • A close network of coaches who will have journeyed alongside you on the course – for support, co-consultancy and learning.

I gained a tremendous amount personally from attending the PB Coaching Postgrad. The experience challenged my own leadership style and caused me to reflect on the person I am and the person I want to be. I feel that this was very much as a consequence of the depth to which each topic area was explored.  The real difference for me from other courses was the amount of this programme that was spent working at the psychological level. There has been a real benefit back at the organisation from my completion of this programme as I am using the learning to develop a Coaching Culture within the organisation as a principle vehicle to achieve significant culture change. In addition I am now a qualified resource for the organisation to use in delivering coaching sessions within the organisation reducing the need to pay for external coaching support. I would highly recommend PB Coaching when choosing a post grad programme as there are significant benefits for the individual and the organisation as a direct result of the approach taken by PB.
