History of PB Coaching

The origins of PB Coaching go back to 1989 when Peter parted company with large organisational life to set up in consultancy with long time friend and colleague, Alex Pannell.

His main interests and influences at that time were management/organisation development on the one hand and psychotherapy/counselling on the other. Indeed, the early years of consultancy reflected this duality as he combined change management in business with personal change work in his private therapy practice. Fortunate to meet and learn from some exceptional 'teachers' from throughout the world Peter made a deep commitment to learn his craft well however long that might take. In fact he was in some form of ongoing training and development over a fifteen year period starting in 1982. The essence of that work was the study of how change really takes place whether at the organisational, team or individual level - and why sometimes it doesn't. The Gestalt framework of reference was a particularly important influence throughout the entire period and remains so today.

In the late nineties Peter decided to concentrate entirely on his growing organisational consultancy, at this time branded as Colosseum Change Management.

Working more closely now with Lesley Bluckert, also an experienced coach and counsellor, he developed a suite of ground-breaking coach training courses and acquired postgraduate accreditation for the advanced level programmes. At this time the company was re-structured to incorporate the new coaching brand 'PB Coaching' and Lesley's 'Online 360', a customer friendly and highly flexible online 360 degree feedback process.

At points along the way a number of exceptional people have come on board and had significant parts to play in the growth and development of the company. There are too many to mention by name but all of them have helped shape an innovative consultancy whose hallmark is the delivery of outstanding results, sometimes from difficult starting points.

Peter has focused a lot of attention towards the creation of a lead professional body for coaching. As a founder member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and former Chair of its Standards & Ethics Committee he continues to be committed to raising the bar on professional standards within corporate coaching. He is also a founding member of the Association of Professional Executive Coaches and Supervisors [APECS].

Whilst the primary focus of the company is in corporate life Peter also works in Premiership football coaching the coaches. The football world with its intense focus on results is an excellent reminder about what coaching is ultimately about - the improvement of performance.

Finally, he is fitting in more time for writing. Some of his recent articles are available on this website and his new book, 'Psychological Dimensions to Coaching' is now available to buy.
